Max Foundation is an ambitious and fast-growing Dutch based non-profit organization (€4,5M annual programs, 3,0M beneficiaries, 58 FTE founded by Steven and Joke Le Poole to have something positive come from the death of their son Max.

Max Foundation believes that no child should die from easily preventable diseases and aims to provide a healthy future for as many children as possible in the most effective and sustainable way.  We have programs in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Nepal.

Place within the organization
The Director Programme and Operations (COO) reports directly to the board and forms together with the Director Business Development (CEO) the two-headed management team of Max Foundation.

The board carries final responsibility for the implemented policies and acts as a sparring partner for the management team. Together with the Director Business Development the COO will build on the organization and jointly reports to the board.

The COO provides leadership to a 53 FTE team, based in Amsterdam (3 FTE), Ethiopia (15 FTE) and Bangladesh (34 FTE).

Role
The Director Programme and Operations (COO) is key in shaping the organization's future direction and success, especially where it concerns the development of Programmes, people and the operation of Max Foundation.

He/she will do so by working closely with the Director Business Development as well as with the teams operating in the region. The business development director (CEO) is responsible for the financial portfolio.

Core responsibilities

Develop Strategy

Develop strategy and build the organization to the next phase in close coordination with the Director Business Development.

Management and staffing

Responsible for overall programme management and staffing, in close cooperation with international and local partners involved.

Manage Health Village Ethiopia

Manage the consortium Healthy Village Ethiopia in partnership with Plan International.

Coordinate relationships

Coordinate the management of relationships with existing partners and where relevant, leverage those relationships to greater collective impact.

Support in transformation

Support in transformation to Southern leadership of the two country offices, supervise, coach and provide guidance to country teams in Ethiopia (15 FTE) and Bangladesh (34 FTE).

Secure progress of budget

Secure progress and quality of budget and programmes in Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Nepal and take action in case of imminent shortages and/or surpluses.

Support country teams

Support country teams with strategic multi-year policy and translates this into objectives and concrete (policy) plans including budget.

Develop HR strategy

Develop HR strategy and be the main contactpoint for co-workers in the Netherlands.

Internal operations

Responsible for IT, admin policies, guidelines, internal operations (Nl and country offices).

Trends and developments

Signal, analyse and report role to MT and colleagues, board regarding trends, developments and bottlenecks in the organization and business.

Seek opportunities

Seek opportunities, relate to and support (research) expansion of Max Foundation to other countries, in close cooperation with the Director of Business development, (inter)national partners and donors.

Represent Max Foundation

Represents Max Foundation donors and local and international partners.
